Development Preconference

This preconference will bring together senior and emerging
scholars with a shared interest in civic development in childhood, adolescence,
and early adulthood. The goal of the meeting is to assemble an
interdisciplinary group to discuss recent trends, theories, and findings with a
specific focus on the processes of youth civic development. Discussion will
encompass the diverse ways civic engagement is manifested (e.g., community
service, activism), related developmental constructs (e.g., prosocial behavior,
socioemotional learning, moral development), and developmental contexts that
promote civic development
(e.g., family, school, community).  The
meeting will also serve as a forum for researchers and practitioners to
connect, network, and engage in collaborative discussion. The session will be
divided into two sections: roundtable discussion of civic development and small
group discussion facilitated by senior scholars.
