Conference Aim:
The primary aims of the conference are to provide students and fellows (undergrad, grad, pre-doctoral, and post-doctoral) in public health and allied health fields with opportunities to:

(1.) Disseminate student and fellow research findings; (2.) Network with other students, fellows, faculty, community-based providers and agencies; and (3.) Network with program staff of the National Institute on Drug Abuse.

Conference Format:

The one-day conference will be held on May 7, 2010 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. The conference format will include four invited lecturers followed by break-out sessions with NIDA program staff and concluding with a poster session of student and fellow research.  We are pleased to have Steven W. Gust, Ph.D., Director of the NIDA International Program at the National Institute on Drug Abuse as our keynote speaker this year. Dr. Steven W. Gust has directed the NIDA International Program since 1999, where he is responsible for the Institute's efforts to foster rigorous collaborative and peer-reviewed international research and promote cooperation between NIDA and other U.S. agencies; foreign governments; and international, regional, and nongovernmental organizations.


Conference Focus:

The primary conference objective is to support student and fellow research dissemination. Posters of student and fellow research on a range of topic areas in public health, psychiatry, psychology, and allied health fields will be considered.

Conference topic areas include but are not limited to:


Epidemiology and prevention of drug dependence
Contingency management
Drug treatment
Drug effects on cognition
Psychiatric epidemiology
Epidemiology and prevention of infectious disease
HIV/AIDS
Hepatitis
Behavioral pharmacology
Abuse liability assessment
Psychopharmacology
Health disparities
Population and family health
Reproductive health


Instructions for Poster Submission:

Submit abstracts of student research via email to conference coordinator, April Lawson at alawson at jhsph.edu<mailto:alawson at jhsph.edu>

DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION - April 2, 2010

Space is limited, abstracts will be considered upon submission.

1.   Abstract should be 300 words or less and include: Study Aim; Method; Results, Conclusion-Significance.
2.   Abstract style should be comparable to CPDD, SPR, APHA, APA abstracts.
3.   List all author names and affiliations, first author will be responsible for presenting the poster at the designated session time.
4.   Students may submit up to two first-author abstracts.
5.   Faculty and research staff may submit one first-author abstract if the submission is co-authored by a student or fellow.
6.   Empirical reports are encouraged but theoretical papers/posters and reports of work in progress will also be considered.
7.   Submissions will be considered for poster presentations only (no oral sessions).

Conference Registration:

Fee if registered by April 30, 2010:  None

On-site registration fee:  $20.00

If registering on-site, the $20.00 fee should be made payable to Johns Hopkins University and presented at registration on the day of the conference, May 7, 2010.
